Human Resources Generalist

 

Position Overview

Bertelsmann is looking for a dynamic HR Generalist to join our growing team in NY. The HR Generalist will have responsibility in many areas of HR supporting our New York office and our Subsidiary Companies within North America.

 

As the HR Generalist, you are part of the HR-Benefits Team, which is responsible for providing strategic and operational HR support. The team manages the HR initiatives and functions, including recruiting, onboarding, offboarding, compensation, talent management, learning and development, payroll, and benefits. Together with your team members, you serve as a change agent and a workplace culture champion. You provide excellent customer service support for all HR-related matters to our managers and employees.  The HR Generalist reports to the Senior Manager, Human Resources.

 

 

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a solid understanding of the business and functions to consult with managers and support employees.
  • Drive and manage all stages of the performance management process (e.g., goals, mid-year reviews, and evaluations)
  • Facilitate new hire orientations
  • Roll-out learning and development training and other corporate initiatives
  • Oversee and administer employees’ onboarding and offboarding, including coordination with IT, Security, Payroll, Benefits, etc.
  • Create and maintain job descriptions; build the talent pipeline and manage the full recruitment cycle  
  • Collaborate with Hiring Manager and internally within the team to draft and extend offers to candidates
  • Administer and communicate company policies, programs, and perks
  • Support employee engagement via surveys, check-ins, and company activities
  • Respond to HR-related inquiries and maintain a positive work environment
  • Support audit activities and the accuracy of data
  • Ensure proper document retention in accordance with statutory and internal business practices
  • Assist and support all HR activities and perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience in Human Resources or related field required; SHRM or PHR certification preferred
  • 4 or more years of work experience in human resources, preferably in a professional service or management consulting firm
  • Must be detail-oriented, highly organized, and be comfortable working on complex problems
  • Solid interpersonal skills, judgment, and client service orientation with a focus on high-quality service to internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate information across a large organization
  • Must be flexible; have the ability to work independently or as a team player in a fast-paced and decentralized environment
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables, and other Office applications
  • Must be proficient in researching information, data entry, and running reports in an HRIS (UKG or other HRIS)
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and employee privacy
  • Must have a desire to learn
