Your Mission at BMG.

You will be responsible for preparing and managing both physical and digital catalogue products, implementing our marketing strategy and ensuring commercial and promotional opportunities are maximised.

BMG Catalogue is the fastest-growing catalogue department of any record company in the UK. With a team comprising upwards of 40 people, this is a fast-paced department with a wide remit. As part of the nine-strong Label Management team, you would be responsible for anything from multi-artist compilations to high end, multi-format artist box sets, reissue campaigns, branded series and digital initiatives.

As a Label Manager you will need to be organised and adaptable, react quickly to the demands of the role and be able to execute multiple projects simultaneously. You will be a strong communicator and able to liaise effectively with the Marketing, Licensing, Sales and Design teams as well as with artist managers and, sometimes, directly with artists.


Your Responsibilities. 
Product Management

  • Propose appropriate physical and digital product and playlist ideas - albums/series/special editions, new formats – across a wide range of repertoire from pop to rock, jazz to country, to agreed deadlines and within budget.
  • Liaise with Sales.
  • Produce project P&Ls for each product to ensure commercial viability.
  • Identify and liaise with licensors/in house Licensing team to secure necessary approvals and clearances, as appropriate.
  • Initiate appropriate packaging and artwork ideas including photo research and clearances, where appropriate.
  • Appoint suitable compilers and sleeve note writers, as appropriate.
  • Attend briefings with external design agencies.
  • Proof read artwork and check audio.
  • Manage designs and mastering through to finished artwork and production masters.
  • Liaise with supply chain and manufacturers on repro and print matters.
  • Manage all associated release administration.

Marketing and Brand Development

  • Propose and manage the agreed digital and physical marketing strategy for designated artists, releases, playlists, labels etc.
  • Prepare, plan and oversee launches, campaigns and promotions.
  • Liaise with external pluggers and PR companies in conjunction with our Marketing team.
  • Propose and manage ideas for developing assigned label and artist brands and their associated communities online and via social media etc.
  • Propose and manage ideas for increasing catalogue exploitation, for example brand tie-ins, D2C initiatives or further catalogue acquisitions etc.

Business Awareness

  • Track performance to targets and update P&Ls.
  • Monitor and review marketing, inception and licensing budgets.
  • Provide effective, detailed, consistent and business-focused communication of targets and product performance.
  • Be aware of competitor releases and marketing activity.
  • Be aware of developments in the reissue and collectors’ market.
  • Be aware of the wider market, music business developments, products and challenges and apply knowledge appropriately.
  • Inform and update on projects as appropriate.


Your Profile.

  • 5+ years’ product/label management experience in the music industry.
  • Experience with managing marketing campaigns for physical and digital product.
  • In depth music catalogue knowledge.
  • Highly pro-active approach.
  • Ability to generate product concept ideas and manage through to implementation (including marketing of the product either with our internal Marketing team or without, as appropriate)
  • Ability to prioritise and juggle a variety of tasks and disciplines at the same time.
  • Ability to build effective and collaborative working relationships, internally and externally.
  • High standards and attention to detail.
  • Commercially focused and motivated.
  • Ability to learn systems quickly and hit the ground running.
  • Willingness to carry out own administration where necessary.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office packages – Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.
