Human Resources Generalist

Position Summary: 

The HR Generalist’s job entails providing support for a wide variety activities of human resources including employee relations, payroll, HR reporting, recruiting and administration of benefits. The main responsibility of the HR generalist is to advise managers, supervisors and employees in all HR practices to provide information and support about regulations, interpretation of policies and procedures, interpretation of our employee handbook and to provide general support. The HR Generalist will also work closely with the HR Central/Share Services Team. In general a HR generalist performs a wide variety of both complex and routine administrative services.



  • Develops an understanding of Business Unit(s) culture and structure to effectively partner with and support the organization.
  • Collaborates with all HR and Legal functions within arvato N AM (e.g., Recruitment, Payroll, Benefits, Legal and Management.
  • Supports HR leadership in providing several key services to the Business Unit in the areas of:
  • Recruiting – Partners in the preparation of job descriptions and posting open positions.  Also drafting offer letters for new hires.
  • Responds to Employee Relations issues – reviews employee and manager issues and works with HR and business leadership to resolve
  • Responsible for Employee on-boarding, conducting new hire orientation and administering departure/exits.
  • Competency building – supports efforts to administer Training & Development opportunities to internal clients.
  • Supports Leaves of Absence and Workers compensation administration
  • Performs compensation and benefits administration.
  • Supports facilities management and ergonomic assessments
  • Supports organizational management through Ultipro.
  • Checks applicant references, makes job offers and initiates new hire paperwork.
  • Participates in development and execution of orientation programs and procedures for new employees.
  • Administers and explains benefits to employees, serving as liaison between insurance carriers and employees.
  • Reviews employee complaints and ensure accurate and timely documentation of concerns or issues.
  • Assists Payroll Department with payroll processing and employee inquires.
  • Enters confidential personnel data into HRIS systems and assists with HR reporting.
  • Files and organize confidential employee documents as required.
  • Coordinates workers compensation administration.
  • Tracks and schedules mandated employee training. 
  • Tracks performance management process.
  • Tracks bonus processes.
  • Participates in safety meetings/part of committee
  • Assists with Visas and Green Card processing and administration
  • Other duties as assigned


Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 - 7 years HR Generalist required
  • Experience in a warehouse/distribution/logistics business required
  • Openness to relocation and travel a must
  • Must have timekeeping  and payroll system experience (Utlipro and Kronos a plus)
  • Must have strong technical capabilities (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Must have strong analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills
  • Must be capable of effectively managing confidential information and data
  • Must be ethical and follow Code of Conduct protocols
  • Must exercise diplomacy in verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have experience as a contributing member of work/project teams
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science degree
  • Experience in a business partnership role preferred.
  • Experience in project management and some knowledge of employee and labor law preferred.
  • Experience demonstrating knowledge within multiple disciplines of HR including: Employee Relations, Recruitment, Compensation, Benefits, Training and Organizational Development required.
  • Embraces teamwork; shares ideas / methods to improve performance.  
  • Demonstrated ability to interact  with all levels of employees, management, and internal and external clients
  • Takes ownership and responsibility for work progress.
  • Conveys relevant information in a candid and timely manner.
  • Ability to make clear and convincing oral presentations to individuals or groups (ie Conduct New Hire Orientation).
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work activities; plans and stays organized in order to meet commitments and productivity standards.

  • Resolves conflicts effectively.
  • Interacts well with people who have different backgrounds and work styles.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Demonstrates flexibility in response to changes.
  • Experience in Learning Management Systems and Applicant Tracking Systems a plus.
  • Experience working in multi-site environment a plus
